What Does Credit Recovery or Summer School Cost?
Credit recovery—often called “summer school”—is available through single course enrollment at Excel High School or Northgate Academy. Students can take a standard, honors, or AP course and have up to 6 months to complete it. Costs vary by course type; see the Tuition Page for details. Before enrolling, students should confirm with their school counselor that the credit will transfer back to their current high school.
Credit recovery—also known as “summer school”—at Excel High School or Northgate Academy is available through our Single Course Enrollment option. This allows students to take just one course, such as Algebra, Precalculus, or English, to recover a credit or get ahead.
💡 How It Works
-
You can enroll in standard, honors, or AP courses, depending on what you need.
-
Each course comes with 6 months to complete—unlike traditional summer school programs that require you to finish by August.
-
You work on your own schedule, 100% online.
-
Once you complete the course, you’ll receive a transcript that can be sent to your school.
📌 Important Note:
Before enrolling, always check with your school counselor or registrar to make sure they’ll accept the course and transfer the credit back into your current high school. Each school may have its own policies that we can’t control.

📅 Timing Considerations for AP Courses
You can start an AP course anytime, but if you're planning to take the AP Exam, keep in mind:
-
The exam is held every May, with registration typically happening around November through The College Board.
-
Many students prefer to begin their AP course around the same time they register for the exam, so the content is fresh by test day.
