Transferring Homeschool Credits to Excel High School or Northgate Academy
Homeschooled students enrolling in grades 7–12 at Excel High School or Northgate Academy may be eligible to transfer up to 12 high school credits. This article outlines the required documentation, testing process, fees, and important deadlines. Families may also choose to enroll without transferring homeschool credits and use our curriculum exclusively.
Who Needs to Complete This Process?
Students enrolling in:
-
Grades 7–9 must submit the Homeschool Attestation Form to verify completion of the previous grade. This form takes the place of a traditional transcript.
-
Grades 10–12, or students entering 9th grade with high school-level work completed in 8th grade, may request to transfer homeschool credits toward graduation.
Transferring credits is optional. Families may also choose to complete all coursework through our program without transferring prior homeschool credit.
Required Documentation
For Grade-Level Placement (Grades 7–9):
-
Homeschool Attestation Form (required for all 7th–9th grade students)
This form verifies your student has completed their prior grade and is used for course scheduling. No transcript is required at this stage unless you are also requesting credit transfer.
For High School Credit Transfer (Typically Grades 10–12):
-
Homeschool Transcript listing:
-
Course titles
-
Grade earned
-
Credit value per course
-
The transcript should reflect all high school-level work completed at home or through a non-accredited program. We will review it to determine credit eligibility.
Credit Transfer Guidelines
-
Maximum of 12 homeschool credits may be transferred.
-
Only full-year courses that align with our curriculum will be considered.
-
Semester-long courses or subjects not offered through our program will not be accepted.
-
All eligible credits must be validated through testing.
Testing Process
To verify homeschool coursework, students must pass a placement test for each credit they wish to transfer.
Steps:
-
Email the Homeschool Coordinator to request tests for eligible courses.
-
A $50 fee per test will be added to your student’s account.
-
Once payment is received, tests will be loaded into the online learning portal (LMS).
Testing Timeline and Deadlines
-
1–6 tests: Complete within 1 week
-
7–12 tests: Complete within 2 weeks
The entire process must be completed within the first month of enrollment.
If not completed in time:
-
Homeschool credits may not be transferred.
-
Courses will be assigned.
-
Enrollment may be dropped and refunded (minus a 3% processing fee) if testing is not pursued.
Passing Criteria
-
A score of 70% or higher is required to pass.
-
Students are given two attempts per test.
-
Passing results are recorded as "Passed Without Grade" (does not affect GPA).
After Testing
When all tests are completed:
-
Email the Homeschool Coordinator to confirm.
-
Your student’s Success Coach will then schedule the remaining required courses.
Alternative Option: Use Our Curriculum Only
Some families prefer not to transfer homeschool credits. Instead, you can:
-
Enroll in our full curriculum and complete all graduation requirements with us.
-
Submit a Curriculum Use Agreement, and we will update your student’s records to reflect this choice.
This is a good option for families who want to transition fully into our program without testing or transferring past credits.
