Transferring for Senior Year? Here’s What You Need to Know
Even if your student has 21 credits, they’ll still need to complete 6 courses at Excel High School to meet graduation and accreditation requirements.
When families reach out about transferring into Excel for senior year, we often hear something like: “My daughter already has 21 credits—can she just take one more and graduate?” It’s an exciting moment—being so close to the finish line!
But even for students with nearly everything completed, there are still a few important things to understand about how credit transfers work and what’s required to earn a diploma from Excel High School.
Graduation Requires a Minimum Number of Courses Completed at Excel
Excel High School is regionally accredited, which means we follow academic standards that ensure our diplomas are accepted by:
-
Colleges and universities
-
The military
-
Employers
Because of these standards, we must require every student to complete at least 25% of their credits—about 6 full courses—through Excel High School, regardless of how many credits they transfer in.
✅ This is a non-negotiable requirement set by our accrediting agencies—not something we can waive.
So How Many Courses Will My Student Need to Take?
If your student is entering with 21 credits:
-
They would still need to take 6 courses through Excel High School.
-
These can be selected to meet any remaining graduation requirements or add valuable electives, honors, or college-prep content.
Why Accreditation Matters
Some schools may offer diplomas without requiring any coursework—but those diplomas often aren’t accredited or recognized by colleges. Excel High School is not a diploma mill. Our standards help protect the value and credibility of your student’s diploma.
